Please note: some regular events are weekly, some are monthly, and some only happen at certain times of the year.
MONDAYS
Creative Journaling 10:00 to 16:00 
These monthly workshops will offer a creative hub, a space in which to mindfully reflect, exploring outside/inside, with inks, brushes, pens, pencils, sticks, watercolours, found and made objects, and range of 2/3D mixed media. The idea is to allow time to have fun and playfully develop ideas, rituals, new ways of working, through experiential and experimental contemporary visual storytelling. Artist will supply a range of book arts materials, plus a sewing machine. Collect your own memorabilia, i.e. photographs, maps, drawings or old paintings, books, textiles, and favourite art making stuff. Bring a journal or something to work into, plus an apron and outdoor warm clothes, and your lunch.
Limited to 10 places

£35 per day, including materials.

Device Photography 11:00 to 12:30
With technology at our finger tips and opportunities to take endless amounts of photos of family and friends, would you like to learn how to make your photos more considered and polished for a professional finish? Run by Jaime Bullock, this is an app based course for mobile phones, iPads and kindles so bring them along, some small additional costs for particular apps may apply but are optional. You will be shown photography techniques, how to best choose and shoot your subject and then how to make them fit for exhibition.
£50 for six weeks.

A Sense of Art 13:00 to 14:30
Bring your pad and paints and enjoy an art class with Jaime Bullock in and around the wonderful settings of the Richard Jefferies Museum and Coate Water. With plenty of fun challenges you will learn landscape techniques to the painting of the tiny details of the smallest flower. There will be a group exhibition of your work based in the Richard Jeffries Museum at the end of the 6 week course for all your friends and family to see. Sessions are £11. Bring a packed lunch and come and join in the fun. As Jefferies himself says: "The lover of nature has the highest art in his/her soul." 

£50 for six weeks.

Magic Mondays 13:00 to 15:00 (plus free play to 17:00)
Each Monday during the summer holidays, until 22nd August, we have stories, arts & crafts, fun & games for the whole family.
£5 per family, or family pass for all four (£15).


Write Poetry 18:00 to 20:00
25th September, 30th October, 27th November, 18th December
Poetry Swindon present a monthly poetry writing session with Hilda Sheehan. Be inspired by a selection of poems and discussion to create new work. The sessions are suitable for all levels of writers. A fun and relaxed evening of surprise, discovery and experiment! 
£5 per session.


Poetry in the Sitting Room 18:00 to 20:00 
A regular open mic - bring a poem or two to share.

Artswords Writing Course 10:30 to 12:00
Join Jill Sharp for these weekly sessions to plan, discuss, write and reflect on that novel or memoir you’ve always intended to write in sessions that are purposeful and enjoyable.

Little Mulberries 10:30 to 12:30 From 12th September to 12th December
A parent and child morning of free nature play with a Montessori ethos, plus music and stories. With Hilda Sheehan (Montessori Diploma & Kindermusik Educator).
£60 (12 sessions). Siblings £30.

Participants bring work-in-progress for group feedback/discussion, on one poem or 1000 words of prose.

Join us for light duties in the garden or house - an informal afternoon where jobs get done, but very slowly. Also includes ‘Toddler Workforce’ for carers with children under 5. Books, art materials and toys available.

The enthusiastic members of Swindon Shin Splints run from the museum every Saturday morning and every Wednesday evening. The group, run by Stephen and Julie Goulding, is not an ‘official’ club and no-one pays any fees. It is simply a group of welcoming people who like the social aspects of running, regardless of experience or pace. We run in all weathers, and runs are followed by well-earned toast or cake... However, if running is not your thing, then why not come along and simply take a walk, following one of our guidesheets which outline places of interest in the beautiful countryside of “Jefferies’ land”. And of course, you can have toast or cake too!

Creative Well-being 10:30 to 12:30
A confidence building class with Jaime Bullock to gently open you up from personal constraints, to explore and challenge your inhibitions using laughter, fun and the arts in a wonderful safe environment or if you are feeling lost and directionless we will help you to re-find yourself and point you in the right direction to happiness. All materials will be provided, bring a pack lunch if would like to stay afterwards for a chill and chat in the Richard Jefferies Museum.

Lots of Lego and free imaginations. Every week throughout the summer, a mass of Lego (plus free play) for the under 10s.

Art & Inspiration for Home Educated Children 13:00 to 15:00
Once a month on Thursdays

Arts awards and arts fun and adventure for children who are home schooled. Be inspired by nature, art, poetry, music and everything creative. Optional study towards Discover and Explore Arts Award with Suzie Simmons or optional study towards Bronze & Silver Arts Award with Hilda Sheehan.
£7 per session
Arts Awards Moderation: £10 for Explore, £20 for Bronze.


Writers@Jefferies 18:30 to 21:30
14th September, 12th October, 9th November, 14th December
Monthly group with Mike Pringle (fiction) and Hilda Sheehan (poetry). Informal classes where students bring in their own work (1000 words or one poem) for each session, whether it is fiction, non-fiction or poetry, loose idea, work-in-progress or beautifully polished. Writers then participate in group and tutor feedback and guidance. Six sessions held monthly on Thursday evenings.

Morning Sunshine Club 10:30 to 12:30 (Apr to July)
Play session for children who love to run around, find bugs, play games and discover! Please wear all-weather scruffy gear. Please wear all-weather scruffy gear as we will be outside whatever the weather. Booking essential: spaces limited to 12 children.
£5 for unaccompanied children over 8 years.
